Doing This, Doing That (Cognitive Rehabilitation)

Cognitive Rehabilitation is an individual problem-solving approach to enabling people with mild to moderate dementia to function at the best level possible, remain engaged, and manage everyday activities. It uses evidence-based rehabilitation strategies to address the impact of cognitive impairments in the areas where people with dementia themselves want to manage better.

The service name ‘Doing This, Doing That’ was coined by ‘Peter’, who attended Beetle Bank Social Farm and had word finding difficulties. Peter used it to describe all the different things we do at the farm. We felt that ‘Doing This, Doing That’ suited the wide range of goals people with dementia decide to work towards when they use the Cognitive Rehabilitation approach to helping themselves.

Cognitive Rehabilitation is recommended for people with dementia

Cognitive rehabilitation is recommended as an intervention for people with mild to moderate dementia in the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE Guidelines) and in the Royal College of Psychiatrists Memory Services National Accreditation Programme.
See this link to the NICE Guidelines.

Cognitive Rehabilitation is not currently funded in York. We are working hard to convince Commissioners that Cognitive Rehabilitation is worth funding. We also apply for grants so that we can deliver Cognitive Rehabilitation for free. Please get in touch to find out what Cognitive Rehabilitation is on offer at the moment. Until Cognitive Rehabilitation is funded we can provide the service privately.
We charge between £254 and £354 depending on whether 6 – 8 home visits are required and travel costs from York. These costs also include staff time for planning and creating resources.
