About Us

“We don’t bite!”
A committed group of people with dementia, volunteers and staff started our organisation back in 2017 under a different name: Beetle Bank Social Farm. This name suited the Social Farm service when it was the only thing we offered. When we started to introduce new services in 2023 we changed our name to
‘Partners in Dementia’ to reflect our new work. Nigel joined us in 2021 as a Director.

“Hi my name is Nigel and I have been diagnosed with vascular dementia. I have been appointed Co-Director of Beetle Bank Social Farm. My role is to assist Justin in helping deal with activities the group are involved with and also direct the group when it comes to gardening and try to advise on what materials are needed to help our plants grow. With yours and Justin’s help, we will have a long and happy journey. Best wishes, Nigel.”

Hi, I’m Justin. I’m a Director and Lead Practitioner at Partners in Dementia. I have worked in dementia care since 2009 in various settings such as a care home; the Alzheimer’s Society; Dementia Forward; and since 2017 as an independent provider. I got into dementia care almost by accident as needing to change career. Care standards are sometimes poor and I got a job too easily in a care home. Anyway. I worked hard and achieved an MSc in Advanced Dementia Studies back in 2021 and have trained as an Advanced Practitioner in Cognitive Rehabilitation and Breath, Body and Mind (click here to read more about these services). I Love this work and know that together we can make great strides to improve care for peopIe affected by dementia and other Iong term heaIth conditions.

Some of our goals!

Our organisation has grown in size, and our goals are varied:

  • to get our memorial garden finished
  • to grow fruit and vegetables we may not have grown before, e.g. melons
  • to get Cognitive Rehabilitation established as a standard service in York and surrounding areas
  • to set up regular Breath, Body and Mind sessions to help cope with anxiety and stress
  • to get our work better known so we can reach more people.
